ACI MARINA ŠIMUNI DISCHARGED A SIGNIFICANT QUANTITY OF WASTE

In one of the most tourist-frequented localities on Pag, the “Blue Cleanup” was held, a large-scale sea and coastal cleaning operation that attracted numerous members of the local community.

Last weekend, Šimuni on the island of Pag hosted another large-scale sea, underwater and coastal cleaning campaign. The most tourist-visited parts of the town itself, including the ACI marina Šimuni, which stands out for its beautiful natural surroundings, were included in this initiative known as the “Blue Cleanup”. The result of the action was the collection of a significant amount of waste, especially plastic, thanks to numerous members of the local community and volunteers. The employees of ACI Marina Šimuni also joined the action, thus continuing the tradition of caring for the cleanliness of the sea and the environment, which ACI d.d., the largest chain of marinas in the Mediterranean, implements in all its units. Along with them, Kristijan Gligora, the youngest explorer of the underwater world in Croatia, also participated in the action, whose work and contribution to the sea was recognized by the ACI by including him in the society of prominent young Croats whose sporting, artistic or socially beneficial activities are supported in the form of sponsorships.

ACI continues to be one of the main protectors of the natural treasures of the Adriatic

The fishing company “SRD Sipa-Kolan” organized this commendable action under the auspices of the City of Pag and the Tourist Board of the City of Pag. The event was joined by Josip Ostrogović, member of the Management Board of ACI d.d., Ante Fabijanić, mayor of the city of Pag, and Vesna Karavanić, director of the Tourist Board of the City of Pag. In addition to the “Blue Cleanup”, there was also a “Green Cleanup” organized by the Local Board, which made the terrestrial environment clean again. Along with divers and numerous volunteers, Kristijan Gligora, a sixteen-year-old researcher of the underwater world and the youngest such researcher in Croatia, joined the valuable action. Kristijan became famous for the discovery of several underwater archaeological sites, including the ancient waterfront on the coast of Girenica and an ancient ship near the island of Mauna. ACI recognizes the importance of supporting young Croats who have brought honor to the Republic of Croatia with their socially responsible, sporting or other achievements. Therefore, ACI continuously supports and helps young talents on their professional path, including young Kristijan Gligora, who became part of a group of young Croats that ACI sponsors in their work.
“Regular sea and underwater cleaning campaigns in ACI marinas across the Adriatic, which the company carries out in cooperation with members of local diving and sports associations and educational institutions and numerous other members of the community, are a pledge of a future in which we will minimize our impact on the environment. The blue flags that fly proudly in our marinas year after year are proof of responsible management of maritime resources, the sea and the environment. The goal of ACI, as the holder of the domestic nautical sector, is to maintain a clean sea and land through active activities in the local community, but also to instill in young generations a love for the sea and the environment, so that they can continue to build a clean future for our country on our foundations. It is certainly worth noting that the originator of this idea is Kristijan Gligora, a young Croatian underwater researcher whose energy and ideas were recognized by ACI d.d. The fact that he dedicated this initiative for a cleaner Adriatic to his friend Karl, who is facing one of the most difficult battles in his life, speaks of what a young man he is,” said Josip Ostrogović, member of ACI Management Board.

The comprehensive action brought together the local community in a joint mission to preserve the cleanliness of the sea and the environment

What is the significance of such actions for the local community, the place, but ultimately the whole city, explained the mayor of the city of Pag, Ante Fabijanić. “The city of Pag has always supported and will continue to support such underwater and environmental clean-up actions, because this indicates the importance of preserving nature and our sea, which are a great asset in this time of pollution that the whole world is struggling with. It is very important that our tourism stakeholders, such as ACI Marina Šimuni, but also our local community, take care of this and actively participate in such activities. This is certainly a commendable action that has the full support of the local government,” he concluded.
“Our island is endowed with beautiful and unique nature and is surrounded by clean sea, so our task is to preserve such a gift. Our visitors are more and more looking for this untouched nature and enjoy it, so actions like this are really to be commended, especially since in this way the awareness of preserving our environment develops. The Tourist Board of the City of Pag encourages and supports all actions to clean up our seabed and this beautiful moon island,” said Vesna Karavanić, director of the Tourist Board of the City of Pag.
