Approved EU funding to ACI d.d. in the amount of 2.7 million kuna for the reconstruction of the Sorkočević mansion in ACI marina Dubrovnik!

ACI d.d. is proud to announce that the Ministry of regional development and EU funds of the Republic of Croatia confirmed that ACI’s project proposal “SKALA – the new cultural-touristic destination in Komolac, Dubrovnik” has successfully passed all 7 phases of the scoring evaluation process of fund granting. The Ministry of regional development and EU funds has issued a Financing Decision on the project proposal “SKALA – the new cultural-touristic destination in Komolac, Dubrovnik” by giving a grant in the amount of 2.7 million Croatian kuna!
The granted amount of 2.7 million kuna refers to the project of document-preparation for the implementation of the so-called Integrated development programs based on the restoration of cultural heritage. Upon completion of the project implementation, that refers to the output of the necessary documentation, ACI d.d. also intends to apply to the competition for activity-group B, i.e. the implementation of the Integrated program for the reconstruction of the Sorkočević mansion itself.
The means from the European fund for regional development are designed to provide support to the reconstruction and revitalization of the cultural heritage through Integrated development programs based on the restoration of cultural heritage that imply investments in cultural goods accompanied by complementary development of additional and primarily touristic contents/services with the aim of contributing to sustainable development at a local and regional level.
The project “SKALA – the new cultural-touristic destination in Komolac, Dubrovnik” includes the reconstruction of the summerhouse and its landscaping. The plan is to open in the area of the castle a museum, a school of traditional crafts, a new souvenir shop as well as a shop where visitors can buy tools used in the Renaissance period. Plans for the renovation and construction of a restaurant and the reconstruction of the park that surrounds the summerhouse have also been made. The aim of the project is to create a new cultural-touristic destination in Komolac in order to valorise touristically and economically the cultural heritage and identity of the Dubrovnik area.
Within the project of renovation and reconstruction of the summerhouse Sorkočević Skala, the whole destination would be branded as a cultural and touristic attraction of Komolac, of the city of Dubrovnik and of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. ACI’s partners in this project are the Regional Centre for community building and civil society development – DEŠA from Dubrovnik and the Croatian Conservation Institute.
By implementing this integrated project, ACI d.d. will gain a high and unique new offer in its portfolio and ACI marina Dubrovnik in Komolac will become the only marina in the Adriatic to own cultural heritage of high value and to manage it sustainably.
The mansion Sorkočević Skala has been listed in the Register of Cultural Goods of Croatia and it is situated on the right side of the river Ombla. It is composed by a monumental country house and a garden – a park, a parterre, a system of walkways and pergolas, four central garden-sculptures with garden-building elements, a fish pond and an amazing stone sculpture within the spacious fenced parcel.

The mansion and the garden were built in the late 16th century in late Renaissance-Mannerism style, with a later Baroquization, the construction of a stairway that leads to the water and the creation of wall paintings in the late 17th and 18th centuries in the loggia and in the preserved octagonal bathroom. As such, it represents the largest mansion complex but also one of the most complicated in construction terms. It is one of the numerous summer residences of Dubrovnik’s nobility that were built in Komolac at the time of the Dubrovnik Republic, but so far it has not been culturally and touristically valorised.

After the reconstruction of what todays is a dilapidated mansion and its surroundings, new events will be set on the premises, such as a Renaissance festival, various concerts, poetry readings and similar cultural and touristic events that will enrich this destination with the offer of new cultural and touristic services.
