The maritime innovation cluster is an expression of the desire to start a kind of reinvention of one of the traditional branches of our area – the maritime industry
Last week, the maritime innovation cluster “MarInn” was established in Rijeka with the aim of strengthening the innovation and competitiveness of the maritime industry, but also connecting key stakeholders and partners in joint cooperation on important projects in the maritime industry. Moreover, the MarInn innovation cluster will provide an exceptional contribution to the branding of the city of Rijeka, as one of the carriers of the maritime industry, by developing a traditional industry branch of the local area.
A key emphasis on sustainable development and green marina management
The key purpose and goals of the maritime innovation cluster MarInn were presented at a panel discussion entitled “Innovation and technology in the maritime and other industries”, which was held on November 15, 2021, in Opatija. As the largest chain of marinas in the Mediterranean and a leader in nautical tourism in Croatia, ACI is one of the key partners of the cluster. The panel was attended by the Rector of the University of Rijeka Snježana Prijić Samaržija, the Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković, the co-owner of the Lϋrrsen Group Peter Lurssen and the Executive Director of the Lurssen Group Justus Reinke. It was pointed out that the most important areas of this cluster are primarily green and self-sustainable marinas, the transformation of waste into energy, autonomous vehicles and clean technologies based on the use of hydrogen.
An extremely important project in the centre of which is the future ACI marina Rijeka
As part of this cooperation, technology companies from Croatia, Austria and Germany will have the opportunity to push the boundaries of technological achievements of the maritime industry and collaborate on one of the most important nautical projects in the history of Croatia. “I am glad that at the presentation of the Maritime Innovation Cluster we saw that the whole sector is going in the right direction and that we share goals and visions. This is especially reflected here in the area of Rijeka, where the marina in Porto Baroš, as one of the largest investments in nautical tourism, will place Rijeka alongside the most modern marinas across Europe and will position our country even more on the world map of top nautical destinations. Oleg Butkovic, Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.
As it is known, the ACI marina Rijeka will spring up in Porto Baroš, the establishment of which is also the largest nautical project in the history of the Republic of Croatia. Therefore, the establishment of the MarInn innovation cluster is a very big and important step for the establishment of the future marina, primarily because it will connect key stakeholders into high quality and competent unit with the aim of developing state-of-the-art technologies for projects of this scale.
