The city of Rijeka is finally returning where it has always belonged – among the most important ports in Europe, and one of the key projects is the construction of the future ACI marina Rijeka in Porto Baroš
The Novi list conference entitled “Transformation of Rijeka” gathered key experts in politics, transport, maritime affairs and construction at the Hilton Costabella, who together with the institutions under which they operate will be responsible for the major infrastructural transformation of the city of Rijeka. Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković, Mayor of Rijeka Marko Filipović, ACI Director Kristijan Pavić, HŽ Infrastructure Director Ivan Kršić, Rijeka Port Authority Director Denis Vukorepa and BINA Istra Director-General Dario Silić gathered under the moderation of Mislav Togonal. Among numerous projects, primarily infrastructure, special emphasis was placed on the project of establishing ACI marina Rijeka in the port of Porto Baroš, which will make Rijeka one of the leading ports on the Adriatic and a centre for nautical tourism and new technologies in maritime and transport.
A large number of new jobs and the most modern maritime infrastructure are arriving in Rijeka
The project of building the ACI marina Rijeka in the port of Porto Baroš represents the largest investment in nautical tourism in the history of the Republic of Croatia and as such will play a key role in the great transformation of the city of Rijeka, especially when it comes to nautical competitiveness. This primarily means significant infrastructural steps, but also the creation of a large number of new jobs that will bring significant benefits to the local community. “Although the study envisages around 130 jobs in the marina itself, I believe that the total number will be around 500 employees when all activities related to the marina are taken into account,” announced ACI director Kristijan Pavić. He added that the Rijeka marina will keep pace with the development of all new technologies that will be applied in various areas of operation of nautical tourism ports and participate in the development of these technologies. “As far as the infrastructure in the marina is concerned, an electric charging station is definitely planned, because the development of the vessel in the future will certainly go in the other direction. In the second phase, a hydrogen filling station is also planned, because we believe that this technology will also be commercially acceptable in the future, “he said.
A historic step forward for the entire tourist offer of the Republic of Croatia
The Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković and the Mayor of Rijeka, Marko Filipović, also agreed on the importance and significance of the future ACI marina Rijeka. Both are pleased that ACI and Lürssen will make this great vision a reality. “I am glad that ACI is here as one of the best European and global companies, together with the respectable investor Lürssen. After the award of the concession for the port of Porto Baroš, the issuance of a construction permit and the beginning of a key project for Rijeka will follow, “said Minister Butković. Mayor Filipović also congratulated ACI and Lürssen and pointed out that there is a possibility of expanding the marina to a part of the current part of the passenger port. As for the use of the future marina, director Kristijan Pavić said that there is not a single ACI marina that is closed to the public, so the marina in Rijeka will not be closed either. Moreover, ACI marina Rijeka will be the icing on the cake of all development projects of the city – says Kristijan Pavić.
