ACI, as one of the main sponsors, has traditionally supported an important local sailing event that promotes sportsmanship and togetherness
ACI marina Opatija traditionally hosted the offshore regatta “Susak for two and Susak for crews”. The fourth consecutive edition of this sailing race, held during November, brought together 15 great crews – 11 local, three from neighboring Slovenia, and one from Austria. In this very interesting and meteorologically intriguing regatta, competitors sailed along the very edge of the storm clouds on the route from Ičić to Susk and back, and with favorable winds and relatively warm weather, regatta records were broken. The duo Kabalin/Mačešić on the sailboat Njifa was declared the winner of the regatta, while the fastest time in the crew competition was achieved by the sailboat Code X, steered by Sandi Misirača. The race itself was marked by tactical tricks, frequent changes in the standings, and even several photo finishes.
Records marked the final regatta of the club cycle in November
Despite the unfavorable weather conditions that characterized the past weekend in Kvarner, the Susak for two and Susak for crews offshore regatta was accompanied by extremely favorable weather. This year’s regatta under the auspices of ACI was significant in many respects, especially because regatta records were broken in both types of competition – both among duos and among crews. The winners of the regatta, the duo Kabalin/Mačešić, on the sailboat Njifa, broke Cittadela’s previous record from the first edition of “Suska” by seven minutes. The best crew, that of the helmsman Sandi Misirača on the carbon sailboat Code X, beat the record of the Bella Nostra sailboat by as much as three hours, thus demonstrating power and dominance in an unprecedented way.
The end of the cycle of club regattas in November is the crown of a successful nautical post-season in Kvarner
At the get-together that followed the day the crews used for a much-needed rest, the competitors were awarded their well-deserved prizes. This year’s edition of the regatta, like all the previous ones, justified the big announcements, and the sailors who promised to come back next year also confirmed that they were satisfied with what they saw and experienced. This year’s sailing event “Susak for two and Susak for crews” was also given its approval by the ACI, which knows best how important sport and sportsmanship are, as well as the measurement of sailing strength in the autumn months. With this regatta, Yacht Club Croatia concluded the cycle of club regattas that it organizes in the month of November. In addition to ACI, the organization of the entire cycle was supported by the Sports Association of the City of Opatija and the tourist boards of Ičići, Opatija, and Kvarner.
