Employees of the Hvar marina acquired new knowledges about the importance of the sea and oceans for life on Earth and how to contribute to environmental conservation through their daily work
A training course was held at the ACI marina Vrboska as part of the cooperation between ACI and the international organization Green Sail, dedicated to raising awareness about the protection of the marine environment and introducing sustainable practices into the daily work of marinas. The training was led by Ornela Krezić from the Green Sail initiative, and the employees of this Hvar marina had the opportunity to learn more about how much the seas and oceans contribute to life on Earth – from producing oxygen, to absorbing carbon dioxide, to preserving the climate balance.
During the training, employees were presented with the fact that the seas and oceans produce about 50% of the oxygen we breathe, absorb 25% of carbon dioxide emissions and even 90% of the excess heat generated by these emissions. At the same time, the participants of the training were reminded of the devastating consequences of climate change on the marine environment – from ocean acidification, to the disappearance of posidonia, to the mass extinction of fish and coral reefs.
Through the education of its employees, ACI is building the foundations for a sustainable future of nautical tourism
The training in Vrboska is a continuation of a continuous series of trainings for ACI marina employees, conducted in cooperation with the Green Sail initiative, with the aim of strengthening awareness of environmental protection and sustainable business. The next trainings of this type will be held in ACI marinas Milna and Split, and the Split meeting will mark the completion of this training cycle.
As the leading marina chain in the Mediterranean, ACI d.d. continuously invests in the training of its employees, recognizing their key role in implementing sustainable practices and preserving the marine environment. Since employees are in direct contact with the sea and sailors on a daily basis, their awareness, knowledge and responsible behavior are of utmost importance for achieving high standards of sustainability. Cooperation with the Green Sail organization further contributes to strengthening their competencies and improving environmentally responsible business models in ACI marinas.
Sail green, keep our sea clean!
Green Sail, as an organization that has been actively involved in nautical tourism for years, encourages sustainable practices at sea and on land through education and partnership cooperation. The education program is aligned with the goals of the UN Agenda 2030, with a special emphasis on sustainable resource management, responsible behavior at sea and the preservation of biodiversity.
The participants of the education were also introduced to practical advice such as proper management of wastewater on vessels, avoiding anchoring on posidonia and using environmentally friendly cleaning agents. The focus of the education was also the impact of noise and speed of vessels on marine life, but also the role of marina employees as promoters and educators for sustainable behavior at sea.
ACI will continue this practice of additional education of its employees in the future, confirming its strategic direction and leading the sustainable transformation of Croatian and regional nautical tourism.
