ACI has a double reason to be proud this year – the sponsorship of the European Media Sailing Race held on June 8th and of the winner of the 19th Fiumanka – the sailboat Maxi Jena powered by ACI.
This year’s Fiumanka has been traditionally held with the start and finish in the waters of Rijeka’s port.
The whole event lasted four days, in the period from June 7th to June 10th.
The start of the regatta, one of the largest organized in Croatia, along with the breath-taking view from Rijeka’s breakwater, was followed by a multitude of Rijeka’s citizens and tourists.
On June 9th, 2018, at exactly 12 AM, the 19th Fiumanka has started, with competitors sailing in two groups: regatta and family. The regatta group sailed to Omišalj, and the family group to Kostrena. Exactly 147 sailing boats have reached the regatta’s finish line.
At the very beginning, the favourites of the Fiumanka have already stood out: Maxi Jena powered by ACI, Adriatic Europa, Molo Longo and Generali. The battle for the overall victory at this year’s edition of the Fiumanka was held between these sailing boats.
At the moment of the start the wind was a west wind, measuring 10 to 12 knots, and during the regatta it was in decline, but it lasted just as much as the last sailboats needed to sail into the port of Rijeka.
The first sailboat did not take long to pass the finish line – it was Maxi Jena powered by ACI. Maxi Jena passed the finish line at 13:36:17 and thereby set a new record with the best time of 1h36’17” in all 19 editions of the regatta Fiumanka, for about two minutes faster in relation to its previous best time! Maxi Jena powered by ACI thus became the winner of the 19th Fiumanka, in its third year of participation at the Fiumanka and first year of collaboration with ACI, which has brought them a transitional cup for the fastest boat. The perseverance, skill and above all teamwork of the Slovenian-Croatian crew, with the excellent skipper Ivan Kljaković Gašpić – Bambi and the Director of ACI marina Trogir, in passing the 15 nautical miles long route has paid off to Maxi Jena powered by ACI – congratulations to the entire crew.
During the course of the event, in the area of Riva Boduli the fair Kupujmo hrvatsko (Let’s buy Croatian) has been held, with about eighty exhibitors from all over Croatia, along with a full day and evening animation and entertainment program. The exhibitors, whose offer is connected to the sea and nautical services, were accommodated on the square in front of the Terminal. On this occasion, ACI has presented for the first time to the public the new catalogue of ACI marinas in the form of a premium magazine – ACI No. 1.
Each year the Fiumanka introduces new programs that are connected to the sea and sailing, at the very beginning of the new tourist season, so that when it comes to the Fiumanka, sailing is not just sailing and a regatta is more than just a mere regatta.
