ACI Marina Opatija was at the heart of the international event that brought together nautical sector representatives from around the world. Over 20 architectural project proposals for the future development of ACI Marina Opatija were presented at the sixth Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous
ACI Marina Opatija was at the heart of the sixth edition of the Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous, an international event that was held at the prestigious Yacht Club de Monaco, bringing together nautical sector representatives, architects, investors, entrepreneurs and development experts from 30 countries. As part of the event, four different versions of the future development of ACI Marina Opatija were introduced, giving this ACI marina the opportunity to be showcased in front of international expert audience and included in the main architecture programme of this important nautical industry gathering.
More than 20 conceptual designs were entered in the competition, five of which made the shortlist. The project by the Jasper Architects studio was selected by the international jury as the winner in the professional architecture studio category. The featured projects explored the possibilities of developing the existing marina through new facilities, modern architecture and sustainable solutions, along with preserving its identity and local environment.
Visions for ACI Marina Opatija
As part of the competition, a project task was devised that took into account the area limits of ACI Marina Opatija, its function and its recognisable position on the Opatija riviera. Architecture studios were given an opportunity to explore ways to add new functions and facilities to the existing space, preserving the marina identity and its local environment.
Among the solutions suggested, different facilities were introduced, from multifunctional spaces with restaurants, shops and wellness areas to a sailing school and a centre dedicated to marine biodiversity, education and exchange of expertise.
Of more than 20 conceptual designs that were entered in the competition, five made the shortlist, and their designers presented their solutions to international architecture, nautical and investment experts as part of the Marinas & Architects Presentations programme.
Gold in professional studio category
The project by Jasper Architects, an international architecture studio with offices in Berlin, Buenos Aires, New York and Asunción, was selected by an international jury as the winner in the professional architecture studio category.
The jury especially highlighted the successful integration of the designed buildings into the existing environment, the preciseness of the project execution and the functional and aesthetical quality of the design. The projects that were presented have the nature of a concept and serve as a representation of various possibilities in which the existing space can be developed.
JASPER ARCHITECTS representatives received the award from David Sopta, a member of ACI’s Management Board.
ACI and the Yacht Club de Monaco on future collaboration
Participation in the international event in Monaco was also an opportunity for ACI to forge connections with one of the most well-known institutions in international yachting. On this occasion, experiences and expertise were exchanged and a dialogue was initiated about the possibilities of a collaboration between ACI and the Yacht Club de Monaco.
The international significance of the Yacht Club de Monaco, with 2,500 members from 82 countries, additionally highlights the importance of creating connections with the global nautical community. At the same time, ACI Marina Opatija and the Croatian coastline and islands were introduced as a place that has potential for making further connections with the international nautical market.
Focus on future of sustainable and smart marinas
The sixth edition of the Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous brought together experts from 30 countries, among which marina representatives, architects, investors, entrepreneurs and development companies. The programme was dedicated to topics that increasingly shape the development of nautical industry, from AI and cybersecurity to vessel electrification.
Participation in this international architecture competition in Monaco placed ACI Marina Opatija at the heart of an international discussion on the future of marinas. For ACI, this was an opportunity to exchange expertise with international experts, get to know innovative development solutions and open new possibilities of collaboration, at the same time preserving marina identity and responsible relationship with the environment.
